I was hiking in the Namib Dunes in Namibia with only one thought in mind which was ahead of me. Carrying tripod with a Minolta DSLR camera and 70-300mm Sigma lens attached, I stopped to take a breath and turned around to see what you’re seeing. It taught me a lesson: “turn around and see from where I just walked.” It was 1996, Velvia film and with this image, I won the Grand Prize in the National Geographic Traveler photo contest – all expenses paid trip for 2 to Nepal!

 Cover photos showing here are from various calendars and magazines over the years. You will view my original and how a publisher crops a photo to fit their size for a magazine or a calendar. When I’m photographing, I’m always envisioning to whom I might sell as a vertical cover, different sized calendars, editorial, panoramic, etc. It’s always a challenge in 2nd guessing someone else’s eye!
